Book Review – The Light Between Oceans

Book Review – The Light Between Oceans

A new book has been released about the adventures of a lighthouse family on an Australian lighthouse. The title is The Light Between Oceans. The lighthouse is fictitious as  the story is a fictional and moral adventure, but the reviews show that the author, Ms. M. L. Stedman has a masterpiece here. Read some of the reviews below and see what you think. If anyone has read the book, please comment.

When Tom decides to become a lighthouse keeper, he’s given a placement at Janus Rock. It’s a tough posting on a square mile of green, accessible only by boat, that ”dangled off the edge of the cloth like a loose button that might easily plummet to Antarctica”. The closest community is Point Partageuse, a town long neglected by the outside world until the outside world found use for its young men in 1914. http://www.smh.com.au

Synopsis: This is a story of right and wrong, and how sometimes they look the same … 1926. Tom Sherbourne is a young lighthouse keeper on a remote island off Western Australia. The only inhabitants of Janus Rock, he and his wife Isabel live a quiet life, cocooned from the rest of the world. One April morning a boat washes ashore carrying a dead man and a crying infant – and the path of the couple’s lives hits an unthinkable crossroads. http://bookdout.wordpress.com

Audio Book – After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby. http://books.simonandschuster.com

DreamWorks Studios announced today that it has entered into exclusive talks to acquire the feature film rights to The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. The novel, which was just released in the U.S. in July, is already an international bestseller. The story revolves around a lighthouse keeper and his wife who discover a baby on an abandoned boat. The couple decide to raise the child as their own, leading to complicated moral questions and consequences.

Heyday Films’ David Heyman (Harry Potter) will produce the adaptation along with Jeffrey Clifford. “M.L. Stedman has crafted a visually stunning and emotionally harrowing love story with a confounding moral dilemma at its center,” said DreamWorks CEO Stacey Snider in a release. “We were completely transfixed by the story and instantly imagined it as a sweeping, classic film. David Heyman is an ideal partner to bring Stedman’s story to the screen.”

“I’m both thrilled and incredibly honored that filmmakers of the caliber of DreamWorks and David Heyman are combining their brilliance in plans to bring the book to the big screen,” said Stedman in the same release. “I’ve lost count of the number of readers who have said ‘I can’t wait to see the novel as a movie!’ As a keen film fan, I feel the same.”
