schooner Raita is total wreck – crew rescued by Carmanah lighthousekeeper McNabb and linesman Alex Allan, Alexander McLennan, ex-linesman… Both HMCS Givenchy and the Bamfield lifeboat put out to give assistance, but the ship’s lifeboat with the crew was thrown ashore by the huge combers before either vessel could reach the scene… [Colonist, 1925-01-20, p. 17]

 

Died Jan 17, 1925 at Cape Beale lighthouse, BC, Daniel Logan, 72, native of Pictou County, NS, he had lived in Hawaii most of his life. He arrived at Honolulu in 1884 and made his home there until 1924. A journalist by occupation… Mrs P G Cox, wife of the lightkeeper at Cape Beale, is a daughter of Mr Logan. Three other daughters survive him: Mrs Annie McQueen, of Victoria; Mrs George Logan, and Miss Eole Logan of NY. He also leaves a son, James L, of Honolulu. [Colonist, 1925-02-17*]

 

Died by suicide Mar 8, 1925 at Esquimalt, BC, John Morgan, 54, native of Newcastle, England [Ire?], resident here 27 years, proprietor of the Coach & Horses Inn. He at one time operated the Belmont Saloon, later he moved to Duncan, where he ran the Quamichan Hotel. He had been operating the Coach & Horses for about 1 � years. At one time, during the days of the Klondike gold rush, he was mate on a northern river steamer, and it was while in the north that he met with the accident which resulted in the loss of one leg. 
He leaves his widow, 2 sons, 4 daughters, all residing at the Coach & Horses Inn, 2 sisters [Mrs (Capt) O’Brien, of Entrance Island lighthouse]. Pallbearers: J M Telfer, F Steitz, H Stencil, J Vale, J Knight, W Cottrell. Family plot, U 073 E 48. [Colonist, 1925-03-10*]
