The Lighthouse by Mathew Welch

from the Poem Hunter

Into the night like a cold staring eye
It lights the way for the crew
Up on the cliff it sits so high
Creating safe passage and view
All through the night

Into the harbour the ship lays at rest
Unscratched and afloat
The work of the house was at its best
To give guidance to the tiny boat
In the dark, it was the light

Some lovely lighthouse ideas for her and the house on this site Domestic Sluttery! (I love the name!)

Lighthouse Keeper: The New Dream Job

Halifax Regional Police crest - photo Coonor395 - Flickr

When I was working for the Canadian Coast Guard, I used to collect lapel pins. Other people collected shoulder flashes (shoulder crests from uniforms). I came across this badge today from the Halifax Regional Police (Halifax. Nova Scotia, Canada). What a cool idea! A lighthouse on the crest! This photo came from a collector of badges, Dave Connor, who has a photo blog on Flickr under the name Connor395.

Does anyone know of other shoulder flashes with a lighthouse on them? Contact me if you do and I will post them here.

I never even got a chance to post this before Dave Connor wrote back giving me permission to post the photo above, and he then spent hours going through his collection for me, and gave me a list of Canadian and American crests in his collection. The Canadian I have shown below. The American you can find in the links below these.

Virginia Beach Sherriff /  Virginia Beach Police / Hillsboro Beach Florida

Two Rivers Wisconsin / Tybee Island Georgia

If I get enough input, I will post a full page of the crests with all the credits.

No more waiting for a large photo to load – just move your mouse pointer over the small photo or link and it instantly enlarges. See the screen capture photo at thre left where I clicked on “Virginia Beach Sherriff above. Cool! If you forget where you found this, look in Quick Info on the header bar at the top.[/spoiler]
